HIGHLIGHTS OF THE 65th NATIONAL
PRCUA BOWLING TOURNAMENT
Milwaukee, WI
- MAY 11, 2002 - The 65th National P.R.C.U.A.
Bowling Tournament was held on April 5, 6, and 7, 2002, at the 48-lane AMF
West Lanes in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Fifty 5-man teams and 260 individuals
took part in this annual event.
On Saturday, the opening
ceremonies began at 1:00 P.M. Sharon Haberski, Director of District 6 and
hosting society chairperson, introduced the Officers and Directors. Since
Wisconsin is the “cheese” state, she presented the Executive Officers with
an array of “cheese head” gifts.
The Bowler of the Year,
Dennis “Butch” Zylka, was then introduced and presented with a trophy.
President Wallace Ozog officially opened the tournament by rolling the first
ball. It was one pin short of a strike!
During the three days of
competition, several bowlers rolled 700 scratch series. Congrats to: Gerald
Slumski, Joe Stempinski and Jeff Greenlaw! There were two games in the 270's
scratch. Nice going, Gerald Slumski and Joe Stempinski! Christopher Varga
converted the 4-6-7-10 split and will receive a patch from the ABC.
Mass for the bowlers was
celebrated by Fr. Wally Ptak in the hotel ballroom. It was followed by the
usual fraternal festivities. A dance, with music provided by “A Special
Request,” was enjoyed by all. The dancers were tireless until 1:00 a.m.!
The winning teams for
scratch and handicap series were announced. Winners of the first place men’s
handicap series went to Kosciusko Bass Club, Toledo, OH; first place men’s
scratch series was awarded to Toledo Men, Toledo, OH.
First place women’s team
handicap series was awarded to Joe’s Video, Calumet City, IL; first place
women’s team scratch series went to PRCU #1031 Women, La Porte, IN. Trophies
were awarded to the winners. Congratulations to all the winners!
AMF West Lanes and Resident
Vice President Jerry Kucharski donated prizes for the raffle. The lucky
winners took home a Green Bay Packers and a Michael Jordan bowling ball.
Director Connie Bonin won a bowling pin lamp for attending 34 consecutive
PRCU bowling tournaments.
To Sharon Haberski and her
husband, Steve, and their committee, I extend my thanks for hosting this
terrific tournament. A great time was had by all!
“Thanks” to Jerry Kucharski,
his secretary, Mary Jane Robles, Tim Rose of AMF West Lanes, Michael
Dietrich of the Best Western Hotel, my wife Lillian, statistician son, Paul,
