On Saturday, June 7th, 2008 the Second
Annual Polish American Day was held at Six Flags Great America in
Gurnee, Illinois. It is the largest theme park in Illinois, with lots to
see and do and definitely a lot of fun. The park features just about
every kind of ride for all ages including the wet rides at the water
park.
This event was sponsored by four Polish Fraternal organizations
and its Vice Presidents -Polish National Alliance – Paul Odrobina,
Polish Women’s Alliance – Sharon Zago, Polish Falcons – Robert Gorny and
this event was chaired by Polish Roman Catholic Union of America – Anna
Sokolowski. Together we greeted the Polish Americans, mostly students
and our dancers to the park. Sharp at 10:30 AM, at the main gate, just
in front of classical the two story carousel on the stage our dance
ensembles representing our fraternal organizations put on very beautiful
dance performance. The PRCUA organization was represented by two dance
Ensembles – WESOLY LUD and POLONIA. Wesoly Lud, under the direction of
Misia and Richard Jaminski performed dances from Silesia region – Suita
Slaska and Polonia under the direction of Cecylia Roznowska performed
dances from Lublin region – Suita Lubelska. The PNA organization was
represented by the LAJKONIK and POLANIE. The Lajkonik, under the
direction of Halina Misterka, danced a slow, romantic Kujawiak with
lively oberek - Kujawiak z Oberkiem. POLANIE, under the direction of
Malgorzata Skrzypkowki, performed dances from southeastern Poland –
Tance sadecke. The special surprise was a guest appearance of dancers,
musicians and singers from Poland “Pilsko Zywiec”. The Pilsko Zywiec
under the direction of Elzbieta and Witold Mojzeszek performed beautiful
medley of dances and songs from Zywiec and Beskid region.
The
performance was glorious, the audience was appreciable. Special thank
you to all the dancers, choreographers, instructors and dance groups
directors. I feel blessed working with such wonderful people. Everyone
was cooperative and it was a joy to hear praises how much the audience
enjoyed the performance put on by these excellent dance groups. Once
again – THANK YOU SO MUCH! With the performance done it was time for
fun!
Saturday morning was beautiful and sunny and most of the day was
like that, but in the late afternoon some thunderstorms came. Many of
our members still stayed in the park and during the rain used the indoor
attractions. Most of us had a fun filled day at Six Flags.
For the first
time Polish food was served and was provided by Kasia’s Deli – as always
it was delicious and featured Polish sausage and sauerkraut, golabki,
variety of pierogi’s and nalesniki and for desert wonderful crisp
kolachky’s. Also, Polish radio station – Polskie radio -1030AM Chicago
was there and was conducting interviews with us, but especially with our
youth. It was so nice to hear that many of our members were praising our
organizations and thanking us for organizing this event at a discounted
entry price! Special thank you to Kasia’s Deli and Polskie Radio 1030AM,
to Paul Odrobina -VP of PNA, Sharon Zago - VP of PWAA and Robert Gorny
VP - Polish Falcons for helping us to make this Polish American Day such
a memorable day. We truly appreciate all of your work, cooperation and
your enthusiasm. Plans have already begun for the next year’s event and
hopefully more of you will take an advantage of the discounted tickets
and show your Polish American pride and join us at this and other events
which Polish Fraternal’s organize.
