Director Sharon Haberski put a lot of thought into what her District wanted
to do for Join Hands Day this year. It was important that something be done
for our youth. She found exactly what was wanted and the committee greed
that what she found was perfect!
Oak Creek High School was
having their 7th Children’s Theatre Workshop. It was heartwarming to see
that teenagers, such as Producer Lauren Finch, Director Katlynn Palmer and
Stage Manager Ashley Thomas - who were once actors - have now taken on the
duties of working with 3rd, 4th and 5th graders in the Workshop.
The evening began with
teens working with the children on various theater games, followed by the
performance of a skit. It was a entire night of fun, fun, fun! The Workshop
and each theater games teach children improvisation, stage directions, and
cooperation - but most of all, self confidence and motivation - attributes
that will
be beneficial in each child’s everyday life.
It was wonderful to watch
high school students lead and teach small groups of younger students. There
were over 70 actors in attendance. A shy actor by the end of the night
became a Star! The transformation was amazing!
District 6 gave a monetary
donation for the Workshop. Committee members thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
Our Join Hands Day
involvement did not stop there. Left over bowling t-shirts were given to
Past Director Connie Bonin for her Join Hands Day outing in Indiana.
Indiana Fraternal Congress
officers and other organizations such as the PRCUA, National Catholic
Society of Foresters, Ladies of PA Slovak Catholic Union and Forest Ridge
Academy, along with a Girl Scout Troop from Calumet Council of NW Indiana
took our bowling tshirts, added a Join Hands Day logo to the front and wore
them while cleaning up of trash for a 1 mile stretch of a nature path in the
community of Schererville, IN. So, while they have the logo in front for
Join Hands Day, the PRCUA’s 70th National Bowling Tournament from Milwaukee,
WI logo was being advertised on the back of the shirts. All other t-shirts
were donated to the IL Resource Center in Calumet City, IL to be given to
needy families.
Sharing with other
districts and helping out where and when we can is what fraternalism is all
about. So, we are feeling much gratification at doing something special for
Join Hands Day in District 6, helping out in District 9 - Indiana and also
helping the needy at a Resource Center in Illinois. Can’t wait till next
year! |
