FIRST VICE PRESIDENT RICHARD MISIUDA PASSED AWAY

Richard A. MisiudaCHICAGO, IL - AUGUST 12, 2002 - It is with deep regret that the Executive Officers of the PRCUA inform our members of the sudden death of First Vice President Richard A. Misiuda on Sunday, August 4, 2002, at the age of 69 at his home.

Dick was the son of Andrew and Mary Misiuda. He was a resident of Toledo, Ohio. He joined the PRCUA in 1968 and was a member of Societies #1584 and St. Thaddeus Society #1617. He served 3 terms of office as National Director of District 5 from 1986-98 and was completing his first term of office as PRCUA First Vice President. Mr. Misiuda, affectionately known as “Mash,” not only was very active in PRCUA sports tournaments - having chaired a number of tourneys over the years - but he was also a Million Dollar Producer 4 times since 1987. In fact, this year he was the top PRCUA insurance producer, selling $898,600 in 6 months with 41 new certificates.

Mr. Misiuda, a Korean War Navy veteran, worked for Jeep Corp., serving as a union steward until his retirement in 1991. He attended the University of Toledo and was a member of the Polish American Congress, Eagles, and the Ohio Fraternal Congress.

Active to the very end, on June 7, 2002, Vice President Misiuda was invited to throw out the first pitch at CoAmerica Park on Polish American Night during the Detroit Tigers/Philadelphia Philly’s game and on July 18th he enjoyed the honor of meeting President Aleksander Kwasniewski of the Republic of Poland and U. S. President George Bush at Oakland University, where he was invited to sit at their table during the luncheon, and was interviewed by the Associated Press.

Mr. Misiuda leaves behind a fine legacy. He set up two annual h.s. scholarships in his father Andrew’s name, organized the purchase of the new PRCU Hall in Toledo and was instrumental in incorporating the Echoes of Poland Dance Troupe into the PRCUA.

Richard is survived by his wife, Linda, sons Larry (Joann) and Greg (Becky) Misiuda, brother Victor (Shirley) Misiuda, sister Andrea Peake, 2 grandchildren - Christopher and Ashley - nephews and nieces. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Adalbert Church and he was buried in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. May he rest in eternal peace.
